As a ministry providing Bible-content basic reading solutions, schools prove to be more challenging.
For Public Schools, we have only the ABC Look At Me Reading! Learning Packet available, without the Bible Word and Picture Cards portion. However, this provides a critical skill set for early elementary-school children. The ABC Look At Me Reading! Learning Packet covers the alphabet and the 40 most common English words, which account for 40% of all the words on a given page. Many of these are irregularly spelled, making them difficult to handle using a phonics approach. Furthermore, all of them are what are known in linguistics as functors. These words only perform a function in a sentence and have no concrete meaning, but do drastically modify the meaning of the sentence. The ABC Look At Me Reading! Learning Packet is a proven tool for use by a classroom teacher, reading specialist, or trained parent/guardian/volunteer tutor of a special needs or an ESL/ELL student to effectively teach or reinforce the beginning basics of reading to a child. For Christian Schools, all of The Christian Literacy Series Complete Set is, of course, permissible and can be used in any number of formats. Some formats include afterschool programming, Summer Reading Camp programs, and Peer Tutor Reading Programs in which high school students can be trained to work with elementary students one-on-one to reinforce the basic reading skills necessary for these young students to achieve their potential.
