For over 33 years, Allegheny County Literacy Council, Inc./Christian Literacy Associates has been training volunteer tutors, parents, and outreach teams from churches and community groups to use The Christian Literacy Series Complete Set to teach children and adults how to read. Designed by our Founder and President, William E. Kofmehl, Jr., Ph.D., The Christian Literacy Series Complete Set (which includes the ABC Look At Me Reading! Learning Packet and The Christian Literacy Series textbooks) enables a trained non-professional tutor to teach almost anyone how to read. Beginning at “zero” (not recognizing a letter of the English alphabet) and continuing through a functional reading level of sixth grade or higher (matching a student's spoken vocabulary), The Christian Literacy Series Complete Set is an ideal tool for teaching an adult or child how to read.
All of the materials developed by Christian Literacy Associates are professionally designed for use by non-professionals. Anyone who can read well and has the patience and desire to help someone else can be trained to use the textbooks and techniques created by our staff. Also, nearly all of the necessary instructional materials are completely reusable.
